Naftalan resort, located next door to Ganja, perhaps is the most unusual among the mineral spas not only in the CIS, but also throughout the world.

Naftalan is unique health resort with international importance, which is the only mine of healing oil. Archaeologists report that Naftalan was inhabited around the 12th century. And, surprisingly, even Marco Polo noted the quality of the local oil. The modern use of "liquid gold" was found in the 1870s, and the idea of attracting tourists to the city came out in the early 21st century.
