Diseases of the musculoskeletal system
"Over the years, the body loses water together with the cartilage extracellular matrix. Ligaments lose their elasticity and muscle insertions become more painful. This results in lower amount of the person's physical activity characterized by a limited scope of joint mobility accompanied by pain.
At the same time, the activities of lytic enzymes lead to the cartilage degeneration. There are hormonal changes in both men and women decreasing the levels of calcium and phosphate in the body. As a result, bones are weakened, which leads to osteopenia and in a worst case, to osteoporosis.
The curative waters contain substances such as fluorine, phosphorus, iodide, sulfur, and others that supplement the missing substances very well and prevent the body from this kind of diseases.
When we see the high number of people who get disabled unnecessarily, we are shocked to find out how little we do for an adequate care of our musculoskeletal system. Spa treatment with its comprehensive approach is not only less expensive, but also more pleasant than the chronic medicamentous treatment. Some still ask if healthy people should go to spas too. However, at my age, I know personally, that a recovery stay prevents a number of diseases and keeps the body healthy and fit into old age."
Benefits of spa treatment in specific diseases, musculoskeletal diseases, Rheumatoid arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, other spondarthritis, diffuse connective tissue disease
Use of electrotherapy, and magnet therapy, laser, and cryotherapy inhibits the inflammation and reduces pain in the affected tissues. Hydrotherapy procedures and positive thermotherapy help to reduce the muscle hypertonia and lengthen muscle contractions, resulting in an extended scope of joint mobility and better posture of the body. Hand and lymphatic massages have a positive impact on the immune system and the trophic properties /nutrition/ of soft tissues.
Osteoporosis with complications
Group and individual therapeutic exercise with a physiotherapist and exercise in the swimming pool lead to reasonable load on muscles, stimulating the function of osteoblasts /cells forming bones/ and reduce resorption of the bone tissue. By improving the muscle condition the anabolic actions of the body are supported. Magnet therapy has a positive impact on bone fracture healing. Hydrotherapy procedures improve perfusion and metabolism of the whole body.
Syndromes of painful tendons, tendon sheaths, bursas, and muscle insertions
Hydrotherapy procedures, electrotherapy, magnet therapy, and laser reduce the inflammation activity, improve perfusion and supply of nutrients to tissues, they accelerate elimination of toxic substances from the body, and lead to faster regeneration of the affected tissue. The purpose of individual exercise with a physiotherapist is to adopt correct movement patterns.
Hip arthritis, knee arthritis, arthritis in other localities
Hydrotherapy procedures, gas injections, electrotherapy, magnet therapy, hand massages improve tissue perfusion, reduce pain, and together with thermotherapy, group and individual exercise contributes to stretching of shortened muscles, strengthening of weakened muscles, and joint centration, which leads to extended scope of mobility of the arthritic joints.
Chronic back pain syndrome
Hydrotherapy, thermotherapy, electrotherapy, magnet therapy, hand massages, and gas injections contribute to reduction in the pathologically increased muscle tension in the overstressed muscle groups, which releases the pain. Together with individual techniques and therapeutic exercise, they regulate the muscular dysbalance /imbalance/ and lead to improvement in statodynamic function of the spine.
Joint replacement surgeries, conditions after musculoskeletal system injuries, and after spine surgeries
The complex of spa procedures ensures healing of the tissues after the surgery, reduces the post-operative
edema and pain, improves the condition of the muscles, the scope of mobility of the joints after the surgery, and the statodynamic function of the spine. Correct movement patterns are practiced to prevent recurrence of the chronic degenerative process /e.g. at a higher segment of the spine or in the contralateral joint.
Electrostimulation of the affected nerve according to the strength/duration curve, and individual techniques with a physiotherapist as therapeutic exercise keeps muscles functional, prevents secondary shortening of the affected muscles and thus improve the functional scope of mobility and contributes to prevention of deformities and deviations in joints. It also improves coordination of the limbs, the patient's ability to care for themselves, and their mobility; alternative movements are practiced to preserve the patient's ability to care for themselves. Hydrotherapy procedures and thermotherapy improve perfusion and the trophic properties /nutrition/ of the affected nerves and muscles. Facilitating techniques enable faster regeneration. The comprehensive approach helps improving the general physical fitness and mental wellbeing.
Polyneuropathy with paresis symptoms
Electrostimulation of the affected nerve according to the strength/duration curve, and individual techniques with a physiotherapist as therapeutic exercise keeps muscles functional and prevents secondary shortening of the affected muscles. Hydrotherapy procedures improve perfusion and nutrition of the affected muscles and nerves. Hand and lymphatic massages have a positive impact on the immune system.
Nerve root syndromes
Hydrotherapy, thermotherapy, electrotherapy, magnet therapy, hand massages, and gas injections contribute to reduction in the pathologically increased muscle tension in the overstressed muscle groups, which releases the pain. Together with individual techniques and therapeutic exercise, they regulate the muscular imbalance and lead to improvement in the spine dynamic.
Inflammatory diseases of the central nervous system
Electrostimulation of the affected nerve, and individual techniques with a physiotherapist as therapeutic exercise keeps muscles functional, prevents secondary shortening of the affected muscles and thus improve the functional scope of mobility and contributes to prevention of deformities and deviations in joints. It also improves coordination of the limbs, the patient's ability to care for themselves, and their mobility; alternative movements are practiced to preserve the patient's ability to care for themselves. The comprehensive approach helps improving the general physical fitness and mental wellbeing

How the treatment in Podebrady passes?
After checking in to a sanatorium each guest passes medical checkup. Then doctor-balneologists will prescribe a course of procedures.
The resort Podebrady has thermal mineral water sources. But it is important to remember that this water is not prescribed as a drinking cure. Firstly, because its therapeutic effect on body is minimal. Secondly, the presence of various minerals and iron salts promotes an increase in blood pressure, which is undesirable for patients with cardiovascular diseases.
In general, treatment of patients with different diseases of cardiovascular system is performed using these procedures :
Carbon thermal baths. Carbonic thermal baths held at 32-34 ° C for 20 minutes. During the procedure, carbon dioxide is actively absorbed by skin and its concentration in body increases, whereby heart rate is stabilized, blood pressure and strain on the heart are reduced. Carbon dioxide improves blood circulation, has positive effect on cardiovascular system.
Dry carbonic baths. Dry carbonic baths, along with water carbonic acid baths are very effective for treatment of cardiovascular diseases, as carbon dioxide lowers blood pressure, increases blood circulation, slows heart rate.
Thermal mineral baths. The procedure lasts 20 minutes and followed by dry 15-minute wrap (to stabilize body temperature after water procedure). Heat of thermal water dilates blood vessels, lowers blood pressure and relaxes muscles.
Electrotherapy. It improves central and peripheral circulation, microcirculation and tissue nutrition. The essence of electrotherapy is removing pain and pain impulses by stimulation of nervous system with a little force electroplexy. By choosing needed references of currents muscle tone can be increased or decreased. Variable frequency currents warm tissues and help to improve blood circulation and metabolism. Electrotherapy also has analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects on a body.
Physiotherapy. Therapeutic exercise is an integral part of a spa treatment. It is also recommended for people with cerebrovascular diseases and disorders of cardiovascular system. Complex of physical exercises takes 20-30 minutes and is performed under guidance of a physiotherapist instructor.
Course of treatment also includes a number of auxiliary medical and spa procedures that have complex medicinal effect on body. However, to avoid overloading on organism of patient with heart diseases, it is provided the passage of 2-3 (not more) different treatments per day.
In Podebrady doctors-balneologists also recommend patients with cardiac disease to move actively. Since Podebrady are not located in mountainous terrain and the presence of large parks and clean air have a positive effect on health.
